Prof. (Dr.) Ehsanul Kabir

Prof. (Dr.) Ehsanul Kabir was appointed by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of the People Republic of Bangladesh as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) on October 22nd 2014.

Dr. Ehsanul Kabir was born in Dhaka in a respectable Muslim family. He earned his MBBS degree from the prestigious Dhaka Medical College & received post-graduation in Dermatology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). In 1999, he completed a fellowship on the prevention & control of STDs & HIV/AIDS from the University of Alabama, United States.

Dr. Kabir has served as the Secretary General of South Asian Regional Dermatological Society. He is a former executive member of Bangladesh Private Medical Practitioners Association (BPMPA) and he is holding the post of Treasurer of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) since last 5 (five) years. He is renowned for being an active member in the medical fraternity in both executive & on-field roles. In addition for publishing and presenting several scientific papers across national & international journals, he has organized numerous workshops on new pharmaceutical products and attended several seminars & conferences organized by the WHO.

He gained extensive experience in the prevention and control of STDs & HIV/AIDS while working for different NGOs in Bangladesh and has 9 (nine) years working experience as a Physician in Iran & Africa. Before his appointment as the CEO, Dr. Kabir was the Head of Department of Dermatology in Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital, a renowned medical institute in Bangladesh.

Dr. Kabir aims to further EDCL’s commitment for delivering pharmaceutical products of uncompromising quality & value. Under his watch, EDCL inaugurated its 3rd Plant in Gopalganj. The plant aims to manufacture penicillin, iron & hormonal drugs as well as different IV infusions. In the Khulna plant where family planning pharmaceutical products are being manufactured, he aims to extend manufacturing line to include medical rubber products such as gloves, syringe, rubber cork etc.

Dr. Kabir envisions EDCL as the most state-of-the-art pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh, committed to providing cost-effective pharmaceuticals not only nationally but also internationally. EDCL exports medicine to Srilanka & Bhutan. Significant strides have been made in establishing exports to Africa & other parts of Europe in the coming years.

EDCL recognizes that their highly-valued workforce form the core of the organization’s success. The CEO aims to further the initiative by improving working conditions, expanding incentives and creating new job segments with in EDCL.
